Bedsheets, dohars and duvet covers — what is the difference?

• Bedsheet sets — the fitted or flat sheet against the mattress, usually with matching pillow covers.
• Dohar — a light quilted cotton throw, several thin layers stitched together. The right weight for an air-conditioned local bedroom, where a full duvet is too warm most of the year but a sheet alone is too little.
• Duvet covers — the removable, washable outer layer for a duvet or comforter.

Choosing for a local bedroom

The problem here is not cold, it is air conditioning. A room held at 20–22 °C overnight needs a little weight but a lot of breathability. Cotton dohars solve that better than either a thin sheet or a winter-weight duvet, and they wash and dry quickly enough to keep two in rotation.

Care

Wash cotton bedding at 30–40 °C. Line dry in shade rather than full sun, which fades dyed cotton fast. Wash new dark bedding separately the first time.
