Bands by material

• Woven nylon (ridge loop, sport loop) — hook-and-loop closure, adjustable to the millimetre, breathable. The best all-day and overnight band, and the one most people default to in a Gulf summer.
• Silicone and fluoroelastomer — sweat-proof and water-proof. The right answer for training, swimming and the beach, because it rinses clean and does not hold odour.
• Braided stretch — no buckle; it slips over the hand. Choose by wrist circumference rather than by adjustment range, so measure before ordering.
• Leather and vegan leather — a buckle or folding clasp, and a dressier look. Keep it out of water and off a sweaty wrist and it will last for years.
• Clear and translucent polymer — lets the watch case show through, weighs almost nothing, and is completely waterproof.
• Metal link and milanese — the heaviest option and the most formal. Best worn slightly loose.

Closures, and why they matter more than they sound

The closure decides how the band feels over eight hours, not the material.

• Hook-and-loop — adjusts to any point, so it is the only closure that fits a wrist between two buckle holes. It is also the easiest to put on one-handed.
• Pin buckle — familiar and secure, but fixed to preset holes.
• Stretch — nothing to fasten, so nothing to catch on a sleeve. It has to be the right size from the start.
• Folding clasp — sits flat, does not catch, and cannot come undone accidentally.

If you wear the watch for sleep tracking, choose hook-and-loop or stretch. Buckles and clasps press into the wrist when you lie on them.

Getting the fit right

Wrap a strip of paper around your wrist, mark where it meets, and measure the length in millimetres. Most adult wrists fall between 140mm and 210mm. Adjustable nylon and buckle bands cover that whole range; stretch bands do not, so check the size guide on the product page before ordering one. A watch worn for heart-rate tracking should sit snug and about a finger’s width above the wrist bone — loose enough to slide a fingertip under, tight enough that it does not travel when you move your arm.

Do I need to know my watch case size to buy a band?

Yes. Bands are sold in two fittings: 38/40/41mm for the smaller Apple Watch cases and 42/44/45/49mm for the larger ones, including the Ultra. The case size is engraved on the back of the watch and shown in the Watch app under General, then About.

Which watch band is best for sweat and the gym?

Silicone. It does not absorb moisture, rinses clean in seconds and survives chlorine and salt water. Woven nylon is the next best choice because it dries quickly, but it needs a proper wash occasionally.

Can I change a watch band myself?

Yes, and it takes seconds. Lay the watch face down, hold the band release button on the back of the case, slide the old band out sideways and slide the new one in until it clicks. No tools are needed.

How do I clean a nylon watch band?

Hand-wash it in cool water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and lay it flat to dry away from direct sun. Do not put it in a washing machine or a dryer, and do not fit it to the watch while damp.
